Last weekend Punto Italiano was in Palermo, mixing business and pleasure. A real must when visiting: attending a classic opera in Teatro Massimo. This theatre, one of the most beautiful in the world, was the stunning setting for the closing scene in Godfather III. We attended Pucini's La Boheme: shivering!

Currently one of the biggest artists in Italy is Gianna Nannini. The song "Ciao Maledetto" is played on the radio very often. But in the past she had some big hits as well, such as "Attimo" and "Bello e Impossibile".

In 2002 Tiziano Ferro became famous with his hit "Perdono". In the Netherlands we then heard nothing more of him. In contrast to Italy, where he is currently having a big hit with the song "Indietro". Internationally, this number is also known as "Breathe gentle" with Kelly Rowland. However, in Italian it sounds a lot better (even if you do not speak the language).

In April 2009 Italy was alarmed by an earthquake in L'Aquila. There were nearly 300 victims and many thousands of people lost their houses. For (financial) aid to the victims, a large number of Italian artists have released a song together:"Domani."
Check the following link for the text of the song. But better perhaps is to download the song. This can be done via the iTunes Store and costs € 1.49. This amount will fully benefit the victims of the earthquake.

An album that should be part of each Italian music collection is the best of Paolo Conte album! Great classics such as "Max" (the song that led to its worldwide breakthrough), "Via con me" (It's Wonderful) and "gelato al Limon" are part of it of course.
